Who am I?
Hello!
I'm Imi Hunter, a Savannah College of Art and Design alumna with a B.F.A. in Animation, with a concentration in 3D character animation. I graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors and was a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award.
I first discovered animation as a career path after meeting one of the animators who worked on "The Little Mermaid" at Disney World. After hearing her speak so passionately about her profession, I decided to take the animation course offered at my high school, which was a 3D-based course. It was a struggle to get along with Autodesk Maya at first, but ultimately, I loved working in it and knew it was something I had a passion for.
My goal as an animator is to take a lifeless puppet and put a soul into it that resonates with people watching it. Animation comes from the Latin word 'animatio' meaning a bestowing of life, so animation is the bringing of a life or soul to a character. I believe that this skill is truly special.
As I have explored into 3D animation further, I have realized I also really enjoy the technical side of it, specifically rigging. I found it deepens my understanding of how I animate and fulfills the more STEM-forward part of my brain.
When I'm not working or creating personal passion projects, I enjoy reading, specifically fantasy and literary fiction, playing with my golden doodle son, Alo, and hiking.
